AIS West Celebrates 'Rock Our School' Day

AIS West Celebrates 'Rock Our School' Day

The staff and students at Avon Intermediate School West had a 'sweet' celebration on Friday, October 28, for Rock Our School Day.

"This is a nation wide movement," said AIS West 5th Grade Math and Science Teacher Megan Lofgren, "to go outside the box and create a day that kids never forget at school."

When students arrived at AIS West, they walked into Candyland. Sugar-themed tunes like "I Want Candy" were playing on the loudspeaker at the main entrances as students stepped off buses and out of cars. Students walked through hallways their teachers and staff had lined with brightly colored decorations. They posed for class photos in front of themed backdrops. They rotated through specially decorated classrooms filled with fun and engaging academic activities.

"Our staff was dedicated to creating an extraordinary learning experience for every student at AISW and to bring learning to life. Today we reimagined teaching and learning through the sweet life of Candyland. " said Principal Amber Walters. "Every student at West engaged in a variety of activities that integrated math, reading, STEM, teamwork and so much more. Staff and students were hyped about the energy and the learning in the building all day. I am so proud of our AISW staff for thinking outside of the box, stepping outside of their comfort zone."

Principal Walters shared a quote from Dave Burgess that is appropriate for the day: "Provide an uncommon experience for your students and they will reward you with an uncommon effort and attitude."

We're glad you had such a sweet experience today, AIS West!
